5 helpful hints when buying a dog

1. Your home

One of the main factors to consider when choosing the right dog breed for you is your home environment. All homes will suit a dog but you wouldn’t house a Great Dane in a one bedroom bedsit. Take into account the size of your home and that will help determine the size of the dog you should look for.

2. Amount of exercise

All dogs love exercise but some breeds need more than other breeds for example and Border Collie would need at least one hours walking a day as well as mental stimulation. Other breeds such at retired Greyhounds wouldn’t need that amount, but maybe around thirty minutes a day.

3. Money

Most lifestyles these days come down to money. One of the main factors when choosing to own an animal is the cost. You can own a dog for around fifteen years and you will have to cover the cost for all that time.

Part of the payments you will have to cover is the price of dog food, pet insurance, general pet supplies such as poop bags, dog collars and leads.

4. food

Food is the essential part to caring for a dog. A healthy pet needs clean water, daily feeds and of course exercise. Choosing the right dog food for your dog again depends on the breed of the dog. If you choose to buy a puppy then you will have to look at the puppy and junior dog food ranges to start with, after that you would change to adult food and then at a later stage you would change to senior dog food. A great selection of dog food for all life stages can be found at Swell pets.co.uk.

5. Holidays

You will have to decide when buying your dog on the type of holidays you can take. If you don’t want to put your dog into kennels then maybe a caravan, cottage or camping holiday would be suitable.  If you are happy to leave your dog in kennels then make sure you find one that suits your needs, and of course the need of your dogs.

Can I use any of them to boot onto and get stuff off my my HDD to save before formatting?

I will answer three times, all assuming that your primary goal is to recover your files, the first time based on the assumption that you have a CD/dvd drive on the computer with the bad hard drive, the second time based on the assumption that the computer with the hard drive has no CD/dvd drive but you have another computer with one, and the third based on the assumption that you have no access to a CD/DVD drive.

Assuming you have a CD/DVD drive, a dead-simple way to access your files is to download, burn, and run the Ubuntu live CD, locatable at www.ubuntu.com. I have used this method before for accessing otherwise lost files.

Assuming that the computer you hope to retrieve files from has no CD/DVD drive but you have another computer with one, the solution again revolves around the Ubuntu live CD. After you run the CD on the computer with the CD/DVD drive, there is an option to make a bootable USB drive, provided that you have the Ubuntu CD image saved on the computer with the CD/DVD drive. After you make this, recovering your files will be easy as well.

Assuming that you have no access to a CD/DVD drive, I would advise going with unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/). It has instruction for how to make Ubuntu bootable from a USB drive using the software on the site.

About the articles on pendrivelinux.com, I have no clue. I have had limited success with a few, great success with others, and no success at all with a few more. Ubuntu is a safe bet, but other Linux variants aren’t if you don’t know what they are designed for.

Puppy Pads With Adhesive Strips

August 28th, 2011 admin No comments

How can I get puppy pads to adhere to the bottom of a playpen?

I am trying to pad train my 7 week old yorkie puppy using a playpen and puppy pads.Every time she plays the pads get bunched up.How can I keep them lying flat?I have tried the pads with the adhesive strips and they do not stick to the bottom of the playpen

I don’t like pad training because it is still letting them go while they are inside. I think crate training is more successful and faster. And easier to then move onto no crate/pad and do it’s business outside.

puppy crying – what to do?

I just recently adopted a 7 week old beagle mix from a shelter. She cries when she wants to be let outside to go potty, which is great! My only problem is her crying at night. I know she will eventually outgrow this once she is comfortable and knows it is ok to be in her crate for the night. My question is, is it ok that I have been getting up every time she cries (about 4 times a night) to let her outside to go potty? I’m glad she cries to let me know she has to go but I don’t want her to confuse that with knowing that I’ll come running every time she cries. I guess my conflict is between the potty training and the ‘sleeping by yourself in the crate’ training. Should I continue to get up with her when she cries (to reinforce the crying to go potty) or should I ignore her when she cries at night (to reinforce the fact that it’s ok to be in her crate)? Or should I continue to get up with her thoughout the night until she can hold it all night long (at about what age?)
Thanks!!!

I am currently going through your same situation right now, and for the 4th time now. I rescued a 4 week old puppy, and trust me, he does exactly what your puppy does. puppies at this age are just like human babies. You should not ignore her when she’s crying at night, at all. It is just part of growing up, the puppy will over come that stage at the age of 3 months. If you ignore your puppy, then it will be harder to potty train later on because she will have the idea that it is ok to do her “business” anywhere she feels comfortable.
